Most Oklahoma homes deal with hard water.

Whether you're on city water or a private well, minerals build up in your pipes, your appliances work harder than they should, and the taste of your tap water leaves something to be desired. A whole-home water softener and filtration system treats the problem at the source-before water reaches any faucet, shower, or appliance in your house.

Edmond Air has served the OKC metro area as a family-owned plumbing, heating, and cooling company. We often install and recommend the North Star NSCWHC-a Wi-Fi connected, 2-in-1 system that softens and filters water throughout the entire home. But, North Star offers a range of water treatment options, and the right fit depends on your home's water concerns, setup, and goals. We'll help you figure out what makes the most sense for your situation.

Benefits of a Whole-Home Water Treatment System

Treating your home's water at the point of entry means every drop that flows through your pipes is conditioned before it reaches you. Here's what that means in practice:
  • Better-tasting water - Carbon filtration reduces chlorine taste and odor throughout the home, not just at one tap
  • Softer water for bathing and laundry - Softened water can feel gentler on skin and hair and may help detergents work more efficiently
  • Cleaner-running appliances - Hard water mineral buildup can affect water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines over time; softened water may help reduce that stress
  • Less scale on fixtures - Softened water is less likely to leave chalky deposits on sinks, shower heads, and faucets
  • Smart alerts on your phone - The system connects to Wi-Fi and sends critical water usage alerts through the iQua 2 app
  • Works with city or well water - The North Star NSCWHC is designed for both municipal and private well applications

How the System Works

Graphic showing the difference between hard and soft water

One System. Two Jobs.

The North Star NSCWHC combines water softening and whole-home carbon filtration into a single unit installed where your water supply enters the home. Here's a simple breakdown of what happens:
A note on softener pellets and your drinking water: The ion exchange process uses softener pellets in the brine tank to help the system regenerate-but those pellets never enter your home's water supply. The water your family drinks, cooks with, and bathes in does not contain softener pellet material. The two stay completely separate throughout the process.
The system's self-cleaning sediment filter catches particles before they move through your plumbing, reducing the workload on the rest of the system.
Activated carbon media reduces chlorine taste and odor as water passes through, so your whole home gets filtered water, not just one drinking tap.
Ion exchange resin removes hardness-causing minerals. The system has a grain capacity of 31,100, making it appropriate for households of one person up to six or more.
The unit connects to your home Wi-Fi and communicates with the iQua 2 Water Management App. You receive critical water alerts directly on your phone.

AutoSense Technology tracks your household's actual water usage patterns and automatically adjusts softener pellet use, water use, and regeneration frequency-so the system runs efficiently without you having to manage it.
An ultra high-flow 1-inch valve ensures that softened, filtered water moves through your home at full pressure. Treatment doesn't mean sacrifice in water flow.

Signs You May Need a Water Softener or Filtration System

Not sure if your home could benefit from water treatment? These are common indicators Oklahoma homeowners notice:
  • White or chalky buildup around faucets, showerheads, or the inside of your kettle
  • Water that smells or tastes like chlorine
  • Skin that feels dry or rough after a shower
  • Soap that doesn't lather well or leaves residue
  • Spots on dishes or glassware after washing
  • Repeated scale buildup inside water-using appliances
  • Water that looks cloudy or slightly off-color
If you're on a private well, you may have additional concerns specific to groundwater quality in your area. The North Star NSCWHC is compatible with both city and well water applications. And if your main concern is drinking water quality at a specific tap, a reverse osmosis system may be worth discussing as well-more on that below.

North Star Motorized Water Shut-Off Valve

(Part #7388598)

Stop a Leak Before it Becomes a Disaster

Water damage is expensive. One of the most frustrating parts of a plumbing leak is that you often don't know it's happening until real damage has already been done. The North Star Motorized Water Shut-Off Valve gives you a way to respond immediately-from your phone, no matter where you are.

How it Works

This motorized ball valve is plumbed directly into your home's main water supply line and connects to the NSCWHC's electronic board. When the iQua 2 app sends you a continuous flow alert that suggests unusual water activity, you can turn off the water to your entire home remotely, right from the app.

Installation is flexible. The valve can be placed at the softener itself or up to 10 feet away, depending on your plumbing layout.

What it Provides

  • Remote on/off control of your home's main water supply through the iQua app
  • Whole-home leak protection capability
  • Peace of mind when you're at work, on vacation, or just away for the day
  • Compatible exclusively with the North Star NSCWHC system

This is an optional add-on. When you schedule your estimate with HMS, just let us know you're interested and we'll include it in the conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

It treats your home's water supply at the point where water enters your home. A softener removes the minerals that cause hard water. A filtration system-like the carbon filter built into the NSCWHC-reduces chlorine taste and odor. When combined in one system, every faucet, shower, appliance, and tap in your home receives treated water.
Water softening specifically targets hardness-causing minerals like calcium and magnesium through a process called ion exchange. Water filtration broadly refers to removing or reducing specific substances from water. The North Star NSCWHC does both: it softens water and uses activated carbon to reduce chlorine taste and odor.
No. Softener pellets are used in the brine tank as part of the system's regeneration process, but they never enter your home's water supply. Your drinking water, cooking water, and bathing water do not contain softener pellet material. The pellets and your water supply stay completely separate.
Yes. The NSCWHC includes carbon filtration designed to reduce chlorine taste and odor throughout the home.
It's a system we install often and recommend for many Oklahoma homes-but it's not the only option. North Star offers several water treatment products built for different water concerns and setups. When you call for a free estimate, we'll take a look at your situation and help vou fiaure out what actuallv makes sense for vour home.
Yes. The North Star NSCWHC can be used with city water or private well water.
Yes, they're different. A whole-home system treats all the water entering your home at the point of entry. Reverse osmosis is a point-of-use solution-typically installed under a kitchen sink-that provides an additional layer of filtration specifically for drinking and cooking water. Some homeowners use both: a whole-home softener and filtration system for general water quality and an RO unit at the kitchen tap for drinking water. Ask us whether reverse osmosis makes sense for your setup.
The NSCWHC connects to your home Wi-Fi and communicates with the iQua 2 Water Management App on your smartphone. The app sends critical water alerts, such as low softener pellet notifications and water usage information, directly to your phone.
The North Star Motorized Water Shut-Off Valve (Part #7388598) allows you to turn off your home's entire water supply remotely using the iQua app. It's plumbed into your water supply line and connects to the softener's electronic board. If you receive a water alert suggesting a potential leak, you can shut off the water immediately from your phone.
Common signs include white scale buildup on faucets and shower heads, soap that doesn't lather well, spots on dishes after washing, and water that tastes or smells like chlorine. If you're unsure, call Edmond Air for a free estimate and we can walk through your situation.
The system carries a 1-year warranty on all parts, a 5-year warranty on electronics and valves, and a 10-year warranty on tanks.
